Contentment and Happiness – ROJoson

Today, July 1, 2019, I came across this article while trying to Google search my personal blogs on “contentment.”  I typed in following search phrase “being contented with each day rojoson” as I wanted to check if I have posted this before in my blog.  Also, I intended to update it.

I have this resolution before which I formulated in January 13, 2013.

Being contented with each day!
I will make full use of each day!  I will keep myself busy everyday!  I will be contented with 3 major activities per day. These major activities will be a combination of the any of the following:
1.    Medical practice – clinics, operations, writings
2.    Medical education – conferences, teachings, meetings, writings
3.    Hospital administration – meetings, writings, teachings
4.    Public health education – writings, lectures
5.    Family bonding
6.    Exercise-relaxation
7.    Social networking
I intended to edit it as such as I have made a resolution that starting 2019, I will turn down invitations to give formal lectures and attend conferences and meetings.  I will concentrate on writings.

After I typed in following search phrase “being contented with each day rojoson,”  I came across this article:

I like the article as it somehow jibes with my personal thoughts, perceptions, opinions and recommendations (TPORs) on contentment and happiness.

I will use this article to amplify my TPORs.  I will amplify my TPORs by installment – some today and others tomorrow or next week or next month or next year.


I will copy and paste excerpts from Catherine’s article which I particularly like:

“We all have those moments where we feel totally restless and bored with life. Sometimes it’s goes away once you switch up your routine or try something new, but other times it gets to the point where you’ve been feeling unfulfilled with your life for weeks, months, and maybe even years.

One of the main reasons this feeling lingers is because we’re searching for happiness. To me, happiness is a strange concept. I don’t believe that anyone can really find happiness because it’s a state of being, not an object. It’s also not likely that anyone can be in a continual state of happiness if they do find it since life is always throwing curveballs at us.

INSTEAD OF FALLING INTO THE HAPPINESS TRAP, I’M A BIG ADVOCATE FOR LIVING WITH CONTENTMENT.

Contentment, or the state of being content, is about peaceful satisfaction. It involves appreciating what you have and where you are in life, rather than wishing things were different. Of course, I’m not saying you should simply settle for a life that doesn’t bring you joy. Rather, you should continue to dream big, set goals for yourself, and work towards them diligently – just remember to enjoy the journey and not rush to make it happen.

The strange thing about contentment is that it’s possible to feel fulfilled inside yet have outer struggle at the same time. That’s because contentment celebrates the good in your life while simultaneously working through the bad. Whereas happiness may come and go, being content is something you can continually work towards.

There was a comment on organizational contentment which I like to read in the near future:

I believe organizational contentment is very important for an organization’s health as much as it is for an individual’s health.





ROJoson’s TPORs:

I have searching for happiness since time immemorial.

Circa 2013 or earlier (I will search my files as soon as able on the exact date I started), I have decided to set my contentment end-points as my initial step for being happy.

Evidences to support this resolution:

Being contented with each day!

Formulated in January 13, 2013 and reviewed and renewed every year up to present – 2019 – with plan to do revision in July 1, 2019:

In editing my above resolution, I am creating my own sense of well-being and contentment and happiness.  I define my personal core values.

This jibe with what Catherine said: “When your actions and thoughts are in line with your values, you are able to be your authentic self more easily. Being your authentic self is ultimately going to provide you with a greater sense of contentment.

Values are essentially what we care about most in life. They provide us with motivation, they give us energy and/or calm us down, and they give us a sense of fulfillment. Values are what drive you toward what it is you want out of life.”


I have these post-in-notes in my room to constantly remind myself:
– Contentment – contented
– Contentment – establish contentment end-points
– Contentment – financial income goals (contented goals – set at adequate levels for the work-life balance and with the mindset that everything is a bonus if I achieve more than the adequate levels)
– Contentment – daily activities (just 3 major activities – see above; give importance to small stuffs; being productive each day; no more than 9 hours of sleep each day)
– Contentment – no rat race
– Contentment – based on my formulated intentional life plan

In 2014, I have this resolution:
Determine the end-points in all the programs and projects you want to do in your life that will be considered as criteria for “contented enough.” After you have achieved the end-points, retire completely and just cherish the memories of what you have done.

I have been living a formal regimen of a healthy lifestyle since circa 2014 or earlier – proper diet, adequate exercise, stress management, mindfulness and vigilance against errors, spiritual mindfulness, etc.  as part of my intentional plan for a contented life.
Christine wrote on nourishing your mind, body and soul:  “If you want to feel more content with the way you are now, start taking care of yourself inside and out. Sometimes we stay focused on the future because we imagine ourselves healthier, slimmer, happier, etc., but the only way to get to that state is to take action right now.
